Metal Insider’s Top 5: Replacements

Posted by on January 8, 2013

Sorry Sammy, you didn’t make the list.

Metal Insider’s Top 5 is a column where we count down the top five of…well basically anything.

Last week, the metal world was thrown for a loop when Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano left the band to concentrate on his production work. Actually, it was the second time Caggiano had left the band, as Dan Spitz had a brief two-year reunion with the band from 2005-2007. That got us to thinking about the many replacements that bands have had, and how they’ve fit in. Caggiano had a great run with the band, and had been in the band long enough that a casual fan might think he’d been in the band from the beginning. With that in mind, we decided to make this week’s list about the top replacements in bands. Our one rule was that the replacement had to be assuming the role from someone that had played on at least one album, which would explain why Kirk Hammett isn’t on this list. We realize that this is just scratching the surface, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below. Click on the page numbers below to see who made it onto this week’s Top 5, as well as a few honorable mentions.
