Last year was not a good one for Motorhead. What should have been a triumphant return with a strong album, Aftershock, was put in jeopardy after heart issues forced him to be outfitted with a defibrillator and forced him off the road. He first postponed, then cancelled his touring plans for the rest of the year, even as Aftershock had a great debut on the charts. In a somber interview with the New York Times, he said he was “paying for the good times,” even as his manager said that he was cheating and continuing to drink as he was supposed to be getting better.
However, 2014 was the year of the comeback for him. Motorhead played Coachella (twice) and following a triumphant return to the stage at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia. He also headlined his own boat cruise, Motorhead’s Motorboat. With him hopefully calming things down a bit and taking health advice seriously, it’s already been announced that there will be another Motorboat next year, and with him turning 70 next year, there’s life in him yet.
