Norwegian Musician Kristian "Varg" Vikernes1) Mayhem bassist Varg “Count Grishnackh” Vikernes

Perhaps the most infamous crime in metal, Varg Vikernes was convicted to 21 years in prison for the murder of his guitarist, Euronymous. After having recorded De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, the band’s debut album (and first without initial singer Dead, who ironically killed himself), guitarist Euronymous and Vikernes got into a scuffle that resulted in the guitarist being stabbed multiple times. Despite two members of the band being dead and one in prison, the album came out in 1994, with Hellhammer the only remaining member in the band. The band reformed in 1995 with former members Maniac and Necrobutcher, and have a new album coming out later this year.
