Testament’s Chuck Billy is proud to be American. Native American, that is. He’s written several songs about his heritage, among them the song “Trail of Tears” from 1994’s “Low” and “Native Blood” from their most recent album, 2012’s Dark Roots of Earth. Billy is perhaps one of the most popular Native Americans in heavy music, having been honored by California State assemblyman Jim Frazier for his positive influence on the Native American community, among other accolades. “Trail of Tears” is a song about proud Indians fleeing, while “Native Blood” is a more aggressive, angry and defiant one, which actually features a video that was filmed on a Native American reservation.
