Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine: London May (Samhain/Ministry/Brutal Realty) – “Just survive this.”

Posted by on June 9, 2020

Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with London May (Samhain/Ministry/Brutal Realty) as he’s been spending this time embracing his inner hermit.

What have you been doing to pass time during the pandemic?

If I’m not working I can usually be found blocking the world out by sitting in the dark like a mossy log. I’ve included some tips to embrace your inner hermit.

Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?

Check out the soothing sounds on the Fish Man YouTube channel. It’s a perfect accompaniment to sitting alone in the dark and there’s enough content here to last you a few pandemics.

A lot of people have been spending this time cooking including making their own bread, what food have you been prepping during this time?

I can’t/won’t cook to save my life but nature has provided some substance. I have an old orange tree in my back yard that has thankfully survived being ignored for 20 years. Now we are best friends. I have since plucked and eaten every fucking orange off that old tree. 100% organic and Scurvy doesn’t stand a chance.

In terms of entertainment, what movies, books, or games have been keeping you busy?

MOVIES: A darkened room makes a great little pretend movie theater!

I even judge my own little international film festival- winners of this year’s prestigious Londie awards include “The Advantages of Traveling by Train” (Spain,) “Les Miserables” (France,) and the not-to-be-missed “Butt Boy” (USA.)

BOOKS: One thing I can’t do well in the dark is read- so the only book worth turning the lights on for right now is “Lee, Myself, and I” by Wyndham Wallace. Lots of laughs and heart but that Nick Cave cameo made me see red.

GAMES: Nope. I suck at them all AND I’m a sore loser. Words With Friends quickly turns into Words With Enemies. Fuck Checkers too.

What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?

All funning aside, I hope you can let yourself off the hook if you are not quite feeling the PMA all the time. Howl at 8pm OR 8am. Seriously, whatever gets you through these endless days and nights. I suggest to not take on too much and don’t challenge yourself unnecessarily right now. Just survive this. It’s a marathon not a sprint. And some days will just have to be grinded through, perhaps in the dark like me. Maybe at least we’ll develop some super sonar powers when this is all over.

London May answered these questions before the death of George Floyd and the worldwide protesting surrounding his passing on May 25th. Ministry has recently reminded us all that now is the time to let us all unite:
