Metal Inside(r) Home Quarantine is Metal Insider’s new column during this time of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked artists five questions on what’s been keeping them busy ranging from their favorite movies, food they’ve been eating, music they’ve been listening to and more. We caught up with Depleted Uranium as they’ve been spending this time working.
What have you been doing to pass time during Quarantine?
Murray: I’ve been working full tilt the entire Quarantine and working on music in the background. Once we started jamming again, it brought back some sanity and a routine of something that used to be. The Pandemic on a whole was the best thing for my career.
Nick: Baking cookies and frying chicken. Working. Purchased my first home so I’ve been busy decorating; you know, garbage bags on the windows, samurai sword above the bed etc..
Corey: Working, a lot. Raising/training a puppy. Renovating my house.
Babak: Hanging out with my kids to pass time.
Have you been listening to any music or have any playlists worth checking out?
Murray: Pupil Slicer and Frontierer are awesome. Also Clown Core if you’ve never seen that! New music is an endless well and I’m old enough to still appreciate albums.
Nick: Catching up on lots of Big Pun and Lil Kim. As far as new artists, I love Wiki and Your Old Droog. Real NYC hip hop.
Babak: No. I listen to Nursery rhymes…
Corey: Been going through a lot of old stuff.
A lot of people have been spending this time cooking, including making their own bread. What food have you been prepping during this time?
Murray: My routine never changed. Actually I had less time to cook due to the amount of work going on. I’ve always tried making all my meals but it’s either time to make it or money to buy it.
Nick: As I mentioned earlier, lots of cookies and fried chicken. My fried chicken has been perfected, hands down better than anything you’ll ever eat in a bus terminal. I challenge any of your readers to get at me, fuck with the kid, I make the best chicken. Think your mom’s is better?
Corey: -Everything – I worked as a chef for 15 yrs. I actually was less experimental because there were no friends to cook for. Bread, Bagels, Pretzels, beer.
In terms of entertainment, what movies, TV shows, books, or games have been keeping you busy?
Nick: The obvious trash television.. Tiger King, Squid Game. Watched the Sopranos in its entirety. Read the Alice in Chains book. Played a lot of chess. Our singer Babak was this renowned chess master so I had him over to show me some techniques. Oh and finally got around to watching Salo. Now every time I hear someone say “Mangia!” I picture some guy shitting on the floor.
Corey: Lots of reading on history and ecology, board-games (Waterdeep).
Murray: Lots of Netflix shows, and went through The Wire and Deadwood. Mostly my work, music and relationship keep me occupied and the occasional PS4 binge. I also do a lot of boring reading on fire prevention and technical manuals, lol.
Babak: 2 kids….
What advice do you have for your fans in isolation during this time?
Nick: David Goggins style baby, 100 cock push-ups a day.
Corey: It will be over soon, even if it is not soon enough.
Babak: Remember what life is supposed to be like and make sure you get it back.
Murray: Never give up. Never surrender. Know thyself and start a hobby.
