Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
Hope you all had a happy Fourth of July and that you still have the same amount of digits as you did last week. And that you didn’t decide to drive around after knocking back some Budwei- er, sorry, America beer. It’s just as well that Budweiser should (temporarily) rename themselves America since most of our big name beers are tasteless and smell a bit like urine, so why not have one that just represents them all? Say what you want about the Brits, but even their shitty beer is actually beer compared to whatever hell is in those cans. But, you know, no judgement. Anyway, Whitechapel topped the charts and Warped Tour is in full swing.
Notable Debuts:
Whitechapel, Mark of the Blade (Metal Blade) Debut #15, 8,000 sold
A #15 debut is nothing to shake a saw blade at, but Whitechapel’s latest debuted with roughly half the amount of their previous album.
Various Artists, 2016 Warped Tour Compilation (SideOne Dummy)
Debut#32
6,150 sold
Ah, yes, here it is. As usual, there’s a helping of metal on this compilation supplied by Whitechapel, Every Time I Die, Veil of Maya, and Atreyu among others.
The Browning, Isolation (Spinefarm)
Debut #77
2,750 sold
The band’s third album is their best selling yet. I still maintain that their name is rather unfortunate.
Steve Vai, Modern Primitive (Sony)
Debut #100
2,225 sold
Steve Vai’s ninth studio album is his first since 2012.
Denner/Shermann, Masters of Evil (Metal Blade)

5,225 sold
A 33% drop with nearly 75,000 sold, but don’t feel bad for them. “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown” has been #1 at active rock for nine weeks in a row, and they’ll keep selling.

Gojira, Magma (Roadrunner)
#64 (from 13)
3,175 sold
An 81% drop in week two. Also, it’s one of our favorites so far this year (well, for three of us anyways)! This has sold 20,000 so far.
Thousand Foot Krutch, Exhale (TFK)
#91 (from 17)
2,400 sold
This took a 83% drop in week two.

#133 (from 87)
1,650 sold
A 42% drop puts this at the same position as…
Rob Zombie, The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser (UMe)
#133 (from 108)
1,650 sold
… this one, which has a 24% drop with just under 70,000 sold.

#136 (from 101)
1,625 sold
A 30% drop. Oh gorsh.

#158 (from 162)
1,500 sold
A drop of 8%.
Issues, Headspace (Rise)

1,300 sold
Looks like Warped Tour gave this band a few more fans with a 13% boost.
Motörhead, Clean Your Clock (UDR)
#178 (Re-entry)
1,275 sold
This didn’t actually enter the 200 when it debuted, but finally did with an absolutely gigantic boost of 498%. No, not a typo; this sold 200 copies last week.
Nails, You Will Never Be One of Us (Nuclear Blast)
#184 (from 41)
1,250 sold
A second week drop of 76%. We saw about 1,250 Nails shirts last night at the Converge/Quicksand show in Brooklyn last night though, so at least they’re cleaning up on merch.
Beartooth, Aggressive (Red Bull)
#186 (from 160)
1,250 sold
Can this bear a drop of 20%?
Breaking Benjamin, Dark Before Dawn (Hollywood)
#194 (Re-entry)
1,200 sold
A 6% boost brings this back on the the charts. 345,000 sold so far.
Rival Sons, Hollow Bones (Earache)
780 sold
A 43% drop in week two. We’ll see if it has the staying power of its predecessor.
Ice Nine Kills, Every Trick In The Book (Fearless)
760 sold
Warped Tour has given out a big ass boost of 326 for this one.
Stitched Up Heart, Never Alone (Another Century)
680 sold
A second week drop of 83%.
Dark Funeral, Where Shadows Forever Reign (Century Media)
610 sold
Some albums you’re not surprised when they reappear. Other times you are. In this case, seeing this go from 80 copies to over 600, its the latter since we live in America and not Sweden.
Hail The Sun, Culture Scars (Equal Vision)
Debut #97
400 sold
A 84% drop in week two.
Wage War, Blueprints (Fearless)
370 sold
