Babymetalcover

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

This week, metal didn’t have a particularly strong presence on the charts in terms of big debuts or bumps in sales. But one debut shining through the rest sits firmly as one of the more, um, unorthodox metal acts you’ll ever see on the charts in addition to being the top debut of the week. In addition, some bands got tour boosts that have bumped them back up on the charts a bit, so look out for those below.

Notable Debuts:

Babymetal, Babymetal (VAP Japan) 1,000 sold

Taking the top spot this week is the debut album for J-Pop metal band Babymetal. If you haven’t had the chance to experience Babymetal’s music yet…do so here so you’re prepared before they reach our shores. That can be taken as good or bad depending on your love for J-Pop.

InDirections, Clockworks (InVogue) 890 sold

I decided to look up this band and see if they happened to be another young aspiring metalcore band. I was right, although they prefer to be called post hardcore.
