Metal By Numbers 12/13: December’s destructive debuts

Posted by on December 13, 2017

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

This week’s list of debuts is a bit more robust compared to last week, not least of all because it features some long-awaited heavy hitters like The Faceless and Morbid Angel, the latter of which has been receiving sweeping praise. After all, who doesn’t love a good return to form album?

Notable Debuts:

Five Finger Death Punch, A Decade Of Destruction (Prospect Park)
13,000 sold

Yes, FFDP has been around for a decade. Somehow, it feels like it’s been a lot longer.

Glassjaw, Material Control (Century Media)
3,900 sold

This is the band’s first full length album in fifteen years.

The Faceless, In Becoming A Ghost (Sumerian Records)
3,900 sold

After five years, The Faceless finally release their fourth studio album.

Project 86, Sheep Among Wolves (Team Black)
2,900 sold

This is the band’s tenth album.

Morbid Angel, Kingdoms Disdained (Silver Lining)
2,400 sold

The band’s ninth album is being hailed as a return to form.

Intervals, The Way Forward (Self-Released)
1,700 sold

The instrumental band’s third LP didn’t have as high a debut as its predecessor, but I’m listening to it right now and damn is it good.

Operation: Mindcrime, A New Reality (Frontiers)
800 sold

This is the third album and final part of a trilogy the band began back in 2015. This one had the lowest debut compared out of the three.

Eisley/Goldy, Blood, Gust, and Games (Frontiers)
200 sold

This is a team up with Dio guitarist Craig Goldy and David Glen Eisley, who you probably best know for this memorable Spongebob Squarepants episode.

Notable Sales:

Greta Van Fleet, From the Fires EP (Lava)
5,800 sold

A 14% drop. Also, Greta Van Fleet is a real person, in case you were wondering.

Foo Fighters, Concrete and Gold (RCA/Roswell)

A tiny 1% boost.

metallicahardwiredMetallica, Hardwired… to Self-Destruct (Blackened)
1,700 sold

You won’t be surprised to know this is #1 on Billboard’s year-end charts for “Hard Rock Albums” and “Hard Rock Album Artists” over a year after its release.

Queens Of The Stone Age, Villains (Matador Records)
1650 sold

A 21% drop, but this is still alive and kicking.

Marilyn Manson, Heaven Upside Down (Loma Vista)
1,400 sold

A 39% drop.

August Burns Red, Phantom Anthem (Fearless)
