Dave Mustaine Clarifies Aurora and Sikh Massacre Statements, Doesn’t Apologize

It didn’t take long for reports of Dave Mustaine’s controversial comments in Singapore a few days ago to cause a small implosion of the Intertubes.  The iconic Megadeth frontman, in a moment further suggesting that he swapped bodies at some point in the early 2000s with the Time Cube guy, had claimed in an onstage rant that President Barack Obama had staged the Aurora, Colorado, and Sikh temple massacres.  Yesterday, he went on the conspiracy-friendly Alex Jones Show to clarify that he isn’t sure Obama’s responsible, but that he totally could be, because that’s apparently the kind of guy Obama is:

“To clarify things, no one can deny there were criminal rogues in the administration. CBS News got the memos, Congress has the information and basically, Larry Pratt, the head of Gun Owners Of America, who is a highly respected person, said that if they would stage [Operation] Fast And Furious, they’d be capable of staging everything. And it was all done to blame the Second Amendment. We’d be fools not to look at this. Our U.S. border patrol agents were killed. And like I said, I was just quoting Larry Pratt. That’s it bottom line….

In the heat of the moment, when you’re onstage and you’re talking, sometimes you’re not as eloquent as you’d like to be. Like I said, I was just quoting what Larry said. We really need to investigate this and we need to have the Attorney General release the documents and find out who’s responsible for this. People died and the democratic process says, ‘Let’s investigate this. Let’s find out what’s going on here.”

Without getting into the political particulars, MegaDave just clarified that, instead of accusing a sitting president of orchestrating murder, he’d rather have it be known that he wouldn’t put it past the guy.  This in turn puts more focus on Dave Mustaine the pundit, and a lot less focus on Dave Mustaine the musician.  As this sort of thing stays in the news, it gets harder and harder to separate Megadeth’s music – particularly its highly competent recent material – from Dave Mustaine’s controversial positions.

Since Dave Mustaine’s latest foot-in-mouth moment is either ripe for comedy or disappointing, depending on how you’re reading it at this point, we’ll leave the commentary to a few familiar, wittier faces after the jump.
