randy alexIf you were to mention that two musicians are collaborating on some experimental music using iPads, the first thing we’d ask is “ok, which two members of Dream Theater are we talking about here?” However, Randy Blythe and Alex Skolnick, touring together with their respective bands Lamb of God and Testament, have been collaborating on some new music that the Testament guitarist describes as a tour hobby. Several videos and the above picture, courtesy of photographer Tom Couture’s Instagram account have surfaced.

From the videos, we really only get to hear Skolnick noodle a bit, so it’s hard to say what Blythe is laying down. We’re assuming it’s something in Garage Band, but it’s kind of hard to tell what it’s going to turn into, or even if it’s going to be for anything else other than Blythe’s personal enjoyment. Skolnick tweeted about it, saying “Laid down a part for Randy’s far out, experimental iPad music (tour hobby). I think he liked.” It should be noted that Skolnick has collaborated with Lamb of God before, laying down one of the solos on the title track of 2004’s Ashes of the Wake.
