Well that didn’t last long. Reuters reports that Jane’s Addiction has parted ways with ex-Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan, only five months after he joined the band. Though McKagan had performed a hand full of concerts (including the one seen in the video above) and was working on new material with Perry Farrell and gang, apparently musical differences are to blame.
Reuters received the following message via email from the band:
“Hey we wanted to thank Duff for helping us write songs for our new record. We love the songs we worked on with him — and the gigs were a blast — but musically we were all headed in different directions. From here Duff is off to work on his own stuff so we wish him all the best.”
This is the fifth bassist band has lost since its formation, with original bassist Eric Avery leaving for a second time right before McKagan’s entry. What kind of stinks about this more, though, is that the partnership had a lot of promise. I myself was intrigued to hear what McKagan was going to bring to the band. Oh well, guess now we can get pumped for Duff McKagan’s Loaded. Yay?
