Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.

This week’s edition of Metal By Numbers is an important one as it’s the first one to be posted after the record industry’s shift to new music Fridays. Plus, we have a Between The Buried And Me album in the top 10, which is pretty damn cool when you consider the kinds of albums/bands that normally make it that high. There’s also a couple of summer festival boosts, mostly from Warped Tour because, well, it’s Warped Tour.

Notable Debuts:

Between The Buried And Me, Coma Ecliptic (Metal Blade) #6, 18,525 sold

The band’s seventh studio album hits the top 10, marking its best debut yet.

Cradle of Filth, Hammer of the Witches (Nuclear Blast) #65, 3,575 sold

Cradle of Filth’s eleventh album is its highest charting yet in the US.

Phinehas, Till the End (Artery) #73, 3,300 sold

This is the third LP from this California metalcore act.

Palisades, Mind Games (Rise) #193, 1,350 sold

This electronic post-hardcore act from (where else?) New Jersey releases its second album.

For All Eternity, Metanoia (Facedown) 910 sold

The second album from this melodic Aussiecore band.

Unleash The Archers, Time Stands Still (Napalm) 320 sold

This Canadian act’s third album is its first release on a major label.

Notable Sales:

Breaking Benjamin, Dark Before Dawn (Hollywood) #12, 12,700 sold

This is still raking it in despite dropping by 64%. Up to 183,000 sold.

Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #19, 9,375 sold

A 23% boost brings this back into the top 20. Maybe it’s the $20 tour that’s getting people to spend another $10 or so on this.

August Burns Red, Found In Faraway Places (Fearless) #77, 3,150 sold

A massive drop of 90% in week two, but it debuted in the top ten then, so…

Being As An Ocean, Being As An Ocean (InVogue) #82, 3,050 sold

A drop of 22%.

Hundredth, Free (Hopeless) #115, 2,150 sold

This dropped off for a bit, but, thanks to Warped Tour, it’s back with an 84% boost.

Halestorm, Into the Wild Life (Atlantic) #130, 1,925 sold

This dropped by 44%.

Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #139, 1,750 sold

I wonder how many “break a leg” jokes Dave Grohl has gotten since his little spill.

Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter (Roadrunner) #148, 1,675 sold

A 31% drop, though their tour with Lamb of God is likely to pick up some numbers. It’s sold about 340,000 so far.

Thy Art Is Murder, Holy War (Nuclear Blast) #163, 1,575 sold

The band’s third album debuted in the top fifty and had an 80% drop in week #2.

Our Last Night, Younger Dreams (Self-Released) 1,150 sold

A 26% boost thanks to Warped Tour.

Lindemann, Skills In Pills (Warner Bros.) 950 sold

A skillful 38% drop.

Refused, Freedom (Epitaph) 740 sold

An 84% drop in week three.

Silent Planet, The Night God Slept (Solid State) 550 sold

A big boost of 79%.

Babymetal, Babymetal (VAP Japan) 540 sold

A 36% drop.

Armored Saint, Win Hands Down (Metal Blade) 450 sold

Handing down a 25% drop.

Jungle Rot, Order Shall Prevail (Victory) 430 sold

Week two sees this drop by 62%.

Shattered Sun, Hope Within Hatred (Victory) 320 sold

Mayhem Fest stills picks up numbers for this one with a 6% boost.

Amaranthe, Massive Addictive (Spinefarm) 280 sold

A 31% drop, but this will cross 20,000 next week.

Mutoid Man, Bleeder (Sargent House) 220 sold

A bleedin’ 83% drop.

While She Sleeps, Brainwashed (Razor & Tie) 220 sold

A 53% boost back onto the charts thanks to (you guessed it!) Warped Tour.

Paradise Lost, The Plague Within (Century Media) 220 sold

This might be lost soon after a 29% drop.
