Last year, Bring Me The Horizon released a 7″ single titled “Drown,” which was the first new track since their 2012 album Semptiternal. We got to hear the direction they intended to go with a more melodic approach than their usual extreme metalcore sound, which they abandoned little by little in their last full-length. Since then, the band gave us a glimpse to what they have been working on, releasing a new track “Happy Song” which still have the same melodic-rock feel, confirming the band are set to start a new path with their music.

Today, the details on their upcoming album, called That’s the Spirit, have been unveiled during an interview with NME. Frontman, Oliver Sykes explains:

“It’s a celebration of depression, a way of making light of it. ‘That’s The Spirit’ – it’s quite a depressing phrase when you think about it – the sort of thing you only ever use when you know there’s no positive answer to the situation.”

Keyboardist and unofficial producer, Jordan Fish, comments about the album:

“the most intense of our careers. We’d decided to take some time off after Christmas, but then we got a bit bored, got back together and it all started happening. Of course, now we regret throwing ourselves back into the whole whirlwind again so soon…”

The incorporation of Fish into BMTH’s rank has expanded their boundaries immensely compared to their beginnings back in 2004 and now the band has a more mellow and focused composition style where we can even get to hear strings and choirs on top of the heavy rock sound.

That’s The Spirit is set to be released on September 11th and will be their first release since they signed with Columbia Records.
