Back in October, just as it was starting to get pretty cold out, metal fans were teased with the idea of an Ozzy Osbourne-headlined destination festival. The Ozzfiesta was set to take place this May 27-31 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico. We say “was,” because the plug has been pulled on it, and the reason given is cause for concern if you’re an Ozzy Osbourne fan. Visitors to Ozzfiesta are greeted with this message:

Cool Breeze Concerts regret to inform you that Ozzfiesta is cancelled.

Like you, we were very excited about the event. However, Ozzy is having surgery, scheduled for May, following his South American tour. He requires at least four weeks of recovery time. We are very disappointed that we need to cancel.

We will be offering refunds which will be processed in the next 4-6 weeks. If you decide that you would still enjoy an all inclusive vacation at the Hard Rock, Riviera Maya, Mexico please send us an email, and we can make the arrangements.

We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that you understand the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.

What kind of surgery does Ozzy need? Is it serious? These are both questions that aren’t being answered via the website, but the guy’s 66 years old. Anything that needs four weeks of recovery time sounds relatively serious. While we have no reason to doubt the official reason given, ticket sales might have been an issue. Since October, there weren’t any additional updates given about anyone joining the bill. While metal cruises like Motorboat and 70,000 Tons of Metal give constant updates about band additions, etc., things were pretty quiet from Ozzfiesta. And if Black Sabbath are going to be recording an album and/0r playing their last show ever this year, they’ll probably have to do some work around all of that.
