Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
Well surprise surprise, Taylor Swift is still number one in the country. And she didn’t even need Spotify to do it. But enough of that; let’s talk metal. This week’s list of debuts isn’t as robust as past week’s, but it does involve the name Cavalera, which is just great. And while this might not be surprising at this point, Slipknot is still on top of things as .5: The Grey Chapter enters its third week. Expect next week’s list to be a bit more crazy.
Notable Debuts:
Cavalera Conspiracy, Pandemonium (Napalm) #138, 2,625 sold
This didn’t manage to outdo the band’s previous albums, but I doubt fans will care. Maybe Max could dye his hair blonde and write a song called “Rake It Off.”
The Skull, For Those Which Are Asleep (Tee Pee) 460 sold
This is the debut album from former members of Trouble.
Soen, Tellurian (Spinefarm) 370 sold
Want a prog metal supergroup? Here’s one featuring Martin Lopez (ex-Opeth) and Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, ex-every metal band ever).
Lordi, Scare Force One (AFM) 320 sold
The band’s seventh album comes only a year after its previous effort.
Silent Planet, The Night God Slept (Solid State) 320 sold
This LA band gets its first album on the charts.
Notable Sales:
Slipknot, .5: The Grey Chapter (Roadrunner) #12, 19,350 sold
Slipknot is still raking it in at number 12 in week three, having sold nearly 185,000 so far.
Black Veil Brides, Black Veil Brides (Republic) #53, 7,425 sold
A steep drop of 75% in the second week.
Primus, Primus & The Chocolate Factory with the Fungi Ensemble (ATO) #97, 3,500 sold
If you want to view paradise, simply look away from a 46% drop.
Godsmack, 1000hp (Universal Republic) #139, 2,600 sold
A tiny 5% drop.
Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, World On Fire (Dik Hayd) #143, 2,425 sold
Something about fire and a 9% drop.
Five Finger Death Punch, The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell Vol. 1 (Prospect Park) #153, 2,325 sold
A tiny boost of 2%.
Linkin Park, The Hunting Party (Warner Bros.) #178, 1,950 sold
As predicted, this gets boosted back up by 9%.
At The Gates, At War With Reality (Century Media) #198, 1,700 sold
This unfortunately takes a second week dive of 78%, but it’s sold about 10,000 so far.
Amaranthe, Massive Addictive (Spinefarm) 870 sold
A 16% drop isn’t so addictive.
As Blood Runs Black, Ground Zero (StandBy) 730 sold
The band’s in the middle of its final tour, so this may see a slight boost.
Sanctuary, The Year The Sun Died (Century Media) 600 sold
A drop of 12%.
Glass Cloud, Perfect War Forever (Equal Vision) 570 sold
The band’s tour with Whitechapel has done them some good as this gets boosted back up.
Crobot, Something Supernatural (Wind-Up) 530 sold
A not so super(natural) drop of 70%.
Ice Nine Kills, The Predator Becomes the Prey (Outerloop) 510 sold
Tour numbers boost this up as well.
Rings of Saturn, Lugan Ki En (Unique Leader) 440 sold
A 14% drop rings a bell.
Sister Sin, Black Lotus (Victory) 420 sold
A 60% drop, sister.
Texas Hippie Coalition, Ride On (10 Spot) 410 sold
You know if you combined this album title…
Revocation, Deathless (Metal Blade) 410 sold
…with this one, it makes a pretty cool band name, album title, comic book title, movie title, etc.
Beyond Creation, Earthborn Evolution (Season of Mist) 360 sold
This devolves into a 42% drop.
Melvins, Hold It In (Ipecac) 310 sold
Can’t hold a 35% drop.
Rival Sons, Great Western Valkyrie (Earache) 300 sold
Starring Tom Cruise as that guy who tried to kill Hitler. Or something.
King 810, Memoirs of a Murderer (Roadrunner) 290 sold
Over 10,000 sold in total.
Babymetal, Babymetal (VAP Japan) 290 sold
After making their NYC debut, it’s no surprise this would get some numbers. It’s sold 15,000 so far, which is pretty amazing for an all-Japanese album that isn’t available physically in the United States.
