Phil-Anselmo-2With Halloween fast approaching, that means so is the Housecore Horror Film Festival in Austin, TX. Put on by former Pantera/current Down and Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals front man Philip Anselmo and best-selling true crime author Corey Mitchell, bands on the bill include Decapitated, EYEHATEGOD, Napalm Death, Voivod, and more. Also scheduled to play is Anselmo’s Superjoint Ritual, although they will be referred to as simply “Superjoint” due to legal issues.

But if this upcoming show had you excited for the possibility of a Superjoint Ritual reunion of some kind, don’t get your hopes up. According to a recent interview, Anselmo was quick to point out that the performance would be strictly a one-time engagement for the festival.

“It is a one-off, a hundred percent, as of right now, man,” Anselmo explained in an interview with Jack Antonio that he posted on his website. “It’s something that we get asked about quite a bit, but, really, for us, if you look at the guys that are in the band, original members, it’s really me and Jimmy [Bower, guitar], and, of course, we’ve got Kevin Bond coming in on guitar and whatnot. But, really, if you look at just Jimmy and me alone, we’re gonna be crazy busy coming up in 2015 as well, and Jimmy with EYEHATEGOD and whatever obligations DOWN decides to take on. But I think the main focus of next year would be, maybe around summer time, is getting [to work on] that third [DOWN] EP. And other than that, man, I wanna write another solo record and produce some bands. So, [there will be] not as much touring for me next year.”

Anselmo seemed that he was indeed looking forward to the upcoming Superjoint performance, as he further clarified. “We realize this is the end of the push for this year, and Superjoint just happens to be part of it. It’s gonna be fun, man. It’s gonna be a blast.”

So if you’re a Superjoint Ritual fan that’s been holding out on your opportunity to see the band again, you might want to jump on this opportunity. Because chances are you’d just be continuing to hold your breath for some kind of full-blown reunion.

The Housecore Horror Film Festival will be held October 23-26 at Emo’s in Austin, TX.
