There was a lot of Summer tour news released this past weekend, as the Slayer/Megadeth/Testament dates that had been postponed have been rescheduled and Ozzy confirmed that Ozzfest will return as a touring festival. Between those two tours, the Mayhem Festival and the Warped Tour (which features Dillinger Escape Plan among others), this Summer is shaping up to be a busy one.
While blood raining from a lacerated sky is pretty terrifying, it’s not as scary as Cervical Rediculopathy, the back ailment that Tom Araya has been suffering that forced the postponement of the American Carnage tour. Scheduled to start this past month, the Big 3 tour will now begin with the “Canadian Carnage” tour in July, and after Slayer plays some festivals overseas, “American Carnage” will start on August 4. That’s good news for metal fans – unless you live in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth and Louisville, as those dates have been cancelled. However, there have been dates added in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego and Sacramento.
Also, in an interview on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal by Jose Mangin, Ozzy Osbourne announced that the Ozzfest will return as a touring festival in July, Ozzy stated that he’ll be on the road for about a year supporting The Album Formerly Known As Soul Sucka, doing Ozzfest and then an arena tour and a world tour. Details were relatively scarce, though – Ozzy had to be reminded by Jose that there wasn’t an Ozzfest last year, and when asked about which bands were playing, he said that was up to Sharon. We’re pretty optimistic she’ll be able to put together a solid lineup, but with the aforementioned tours, what bands are even left?
Perfect scenario? Get Metallica to co-headline Ozzfest, throw in some bands that haven’t announced Summer plans yet, like Mastodon, Down and Clutch, then fill the second stage up with some bands that have cred, like Gojira and Nachtmystium. What bands would you like to see play?
