Japanese act Babymetal made some waves earlier this year when their debut album, which combines J-Pop and metal in a way that we’re not sure whether is amazing or just cofusing, debuted not only in their native land, but also sold 1,000 copies its first week in America despite not being on an American label. It’s just been announced that the trio of girls (and their backing band, we presume), will be playing their first North American shows this Summer. They’ve been added to Heavy Montreal, where they’ll be playing on August 9th. However, before that, they’ll be playing five shows opening for Lady Gaga. Her tour, “Lady Gaga’s artRAVE: the ARTPOP ball,” will have Babymetal as direct support at the following dates:
7/30 Phoenix, AZ US Airways Arena
8/01 Las Vegas, NV MGM Grand Garden Arena
8/02 Stateline, NV Harveys Lake Tahoe
8/04 Salt Lake City, UT Energy Solutions Arena
8/06 Denver, CO Pepsi Center
In addition, their North American run will begin with a one-off headlining show in Los Angeles on July 27th at the Fonda Theater. Tickets will go on sale for that show on Friday and can be purchased here. Just in case you forgot what they sound like, here’s “Gimme Chocolate”:
