The rumors concerning GWAR and whether or not they will perform again following the death of Dave Brockie a.k.a. Oderus Urungus have only grown stronger recently. It first began when it was reported that the 5th annual GWAR-B-Q would go on as planned and this past weekend the band’s name was found on the bill for Riot Fest. It has now been confirmed that GWAR will take the stage as headliner at this year’s GWAR-B-Q on August 15th. In the press release, it is reported that Mike Bishop a.k.a. the original Beefcake the Mighty would be leading the band, though it is also teased that there could be more to it and that fans would have to attend to find out.
In addition to the performance, it looks like the band is legitimately planning on giving Oderus Urungus a viking funeral (i.e. put him on a boat and set him on fire) at the public memorial on Friday August 15 the day before the GWAR-B-Q. We would assume that, should it actually happen, they’ll just be burning the Oderus Urungus costume, but who knows? Tickets are now scheduled to go on sale on Friday June 6, so you’ll want to keep an eye on that date if you want to go since the attendance is likely to be massive this year.
