Back in 2008, Guns N’ Roses released their first album of original music in 17 years. There was no way Chinese Democracy would live up to the hype and expectations placed on it, and it failed pretty epically. While the band has continued to tour, and played the Revolver Golden Gods Awards on Wednesday, we haven’t heard much about a follow up. Until now, at least. Guitarist Richard Fortus was on the black carpet before the awards and offered an extremely optimistic forecast for new GN’R.
We are working on stuff and and hopefully very soon we’re going to have new stuff out, he said. “Well, in the next year. We’re going to be in Vegas all together, so hopefully during that time we’re going to be able to get in a room and start laying down some stuff.
Seven years is a hell of a lot less time than the 17 it took between the Use Your Illusions and Chinese Democracy (we’re not counting The Spaghetti Incident because it was a covers album). But considering that there hasn’t been any talk about new music from the band, and the process with their last album was so laborious, it’d be hard to imagine they’ll have anything happening next year. Then again, as Fortus said, with the band in Las Vegas for a second residency starting next month, maybe they’ll be able to at least get started. So you heard it here first: new GN’R in 2015! (We just want to have this in writing for 2021 when it actually comes out). For now, at least we’ve got a vaguely terrifying Gatorade ad featuring “Welcome to the Jungle” and starring the Washington Nationals’ Bryce Harper.
