On September 22, Yankee closer Mariano Rivera will be honored by the team, as he’s retiring after an impressive 17 years with the Yanks. His walk-on music is Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” Somewhat coincidentally (or is it?), Metallica will be playing a special show for SiriusXM subscribers at the Apollo to commemorate the launch of the “Mandatory Metallica” channel, not to mention their new movie coming out. The band don’t have anything booked after that, so the New York Daily News is surmising that Metallica might be a part of Rivera’s celebration, as the song is synonymous with him. A Yankee spokesperson had no comment on the ceremony, but if you’re a Metallica fan shut out of the Apollo, you might want to consider picking up a ticket for the Yanks/Giants game.
