Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
Let’s get this out of the way: we know that simply by reading the headline people are probably ready to toss in their very meaningful two cents with a comment that probably looks like “(insert band name here) SUCKS!!!! WHY R U TALKING ABOUT THEM?!” Well, your insightful opinion has been acknowledged. We hope you feel validated and that you can learn to forgive our egregious error and look past it in favor of the many other bands we have listed here. After all, we got some pretty cool debuts this week ranging from premiere metalcore acts to solo albums. Plus, a lot of albums from the likes of Karnivool and Volto! have gotten some nice (and by nice we mean ginormous) boosts in sales this week. The English metalcore act has its best debut yet with album number three.
Norma Jean, Wrongdoers (Razor & Tie) #37, 8,350 sold
Norma Jean is back with its sixth album as the band close out the Summer Slaughter tour.
Newsted, Heavy Metal Music (Collective Sounds) #40, 7,650 sold
Jason Newsted had an EP out earlier this year, and now the full-length debut is here with a very respectable debut.
iwrestledabearonce, Late For Nothing (Century Media) #89, 3,900 sold
The band’s third album and first with vocalist Courtney LaPlante is wrestling with the charts.
Revocation, Revocation (Relapse) #134, 2,500 sold
Maniacal thrashers Revocation have released a self-titled third album that doubled the sales of their last. Well played, fellas.
James LaBrie, Impermanent Resonance (Inside Out) #156, 2,150 sold
The Dream Theater frontman has released his third solo album with an even better debut than its predecessor.
Exhumed, Necrocracy (Relapse) 1,300 sold
Exhumed has released its sixth album, its second since the band’s five-year hiatus.
Powerwolf, Preachers of the Night (Napalm) 430 sold
What do you get when you combine German power metal with songs about werewolves and vampires? Oh, andthrow in some corpsepaint for good measure
Witherscape, Inheritance (Century Media) 310 sold
Witherscape is a new project from Dan Swanö (ex-Edge of Sanity, ex-Bloodbath) and Ragnar Widerberg.

Just under 150,000 sold thus far, and a pretty impressive second week.
Skillet, Rise (Atlantic), #47, 6,850 sold
Sales will likely rise with a little bit of tour magic. They’re looking at 130,000 sold in a little under two months.
Black Sabbath, 13 (Universal) #51, 6,550 sold
At 290,000 sold, this will be hitting the 300,000 soon. After seeing their live show, we’re wondering why “Methedemic” wasn’t on the album.
Various Artists, 2013 Warped Tour Compilation (Side One Dummy) #74, 4,350
At week 10, it’s a little under 60,000 sold for this compilation, even though the tour is done. Guess kids are buying it for Summer memories as they head back to school?
We Came As Romans, Tracing Back Roots (Equal Vision) #87, 3,925 sold
With a 46% drop this week, this album has sold a little under 40,000 so far.
Queens Of The Stone Age, …Like Clockwork (Matador) #106, 3,275 sold
At week 10, this has sold over 163,000 in total.
Bring Me The Horizon, Sempiternal (Epitaph) #109, 3,175 sold
A couple more weeks and this could be breaking the 100,000 mark.

The strange case of 69…weeks on the charts that is.

This is already gold in the band’s native Denmark.

At week 35, this album gets a 59% boost.

What…I…how…why is this back? We could just ignore it, but it’s just too baffling not to point out.

This actually dropped a tiny tiny bit this week, but still has just under 430,000 sold.

A 16% drop isn’t so fashionable.

Nearly 145,000 sold in total.
Chimaira, Crown of Phantoms (eOne) #184, 1,800 sold
It’s a 76% second week drop for Chimaira with over 9,000 sold.
30 Seconds To Mars, Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (Virgin) #192, 2,800 sold
This dropped off for a bit last week, but now it’s back on with over 93,000 sold.
Amon Amarth, Deceiver of the Gods (Metal Blade) #195, 1,725 sold
Someone has been rocking the (giant) boat with a 25% drop.
Rob Zombie, Venemous Rat Regeneration Vendor (T-Boy/UMe) #197, 1,675 sold
Over 90,000 sold for Mr. Zombie.
Karnivool, Asymmetry (Density/Workhorse) 1,525 sold
Karnivool get an enormous 329% boost in sales due to the physical version of the album being releasedEx. Looking good!
Volto! Incitare (Concord) 600 sold
This dropped off the charts briefly after its debut, but Danny Carey and company are still selling.
Fit For A King, Creation/Destruction (Tooth & Nail) 700 sold
Another big boost in sales comes for Fir For A King with just under 11,000 sold in total.
Butcher Babies, Goliath (Century Media) 600 sold
A 35% drop, but these babies got their share of attention.
Deafheaven, Sunbather (Deathwish) 580 sold
10 weeks on and this continues to steadily sell.
Crown The Empire, The Fallout (Rise) 540 sold
Just under 35,000 sold for the album that makes you want t go play Fallout: New Vegas.

A 36% drop for these riders.
