cbgb-movie-posterLast year, the ’80s hair metal scene got its own film, the awful Rock of Ages. Now the trailer has been launched for what could be the ’70s punk version of that, as a film based on iconic Manhattan club, CBGB, will be released on October 11. While the jury’s still out on how authentically the movie will mirror the birth and rise of the club, at least it will look authentic, as interiors from the actual club were shipped down to Savannah, GA, where the movie was filmed last year.

In it’s defense, at least there’s no monkey in the movie. However, both Rock of Ages and CBGB feature Malin Akerman (with her playing Blondie in this one). We’ll also get to see Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins portray Iggy Pop. There’s also a tagline for the film (“50,000 bands and 1 disgusting bathroom”) that we can get behind, because the bathroom was notoriously gross. But it’s definitely not going to be as gritty as the actual club was, and it looks like it’s going to focus more on the club’s early days as the birthplace of punk than it will on the Sunday matinee hardcore shows that broke bands like Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags and Sick of it All, but that’s to be expected.

The film will be accompanied by a soundtrack featuring many of the bands that broke out of the club, which closed in 2006. So at least we already know the soundtrack will be better than Rock of Ages. Check out track listing and trailer below.
