We’ve heard audio samples of Frequency Unknown, the new album from Geoff Tate’s version of Queensryche. We’ve also heard the album’s first single in full. Now, less than a week before its, Cleopatra Records is streaming the album in its entirety online.
So how does Frequency Unknown sound? Well, it’s definitely better sounding than we expected. However, if you weren’t impressed by the 90 second samples, then this won’t win you over. In fact, if you weren’t a fan of Queensryche’s last few albums, then you won’t be too fond of the new songs (nor of Tate’s version’s re-recordings of classic Queensryche songs). Yet it sounds a little more straight-ahead rock than either of Tate’s solo album or the last few Queensryche albums. Whether it’ll sound any better when it’s remixed remains to be heard (though that might not happen anymore, at least not by the originally announced mixer).
Stream Frequency Unknown for yourself in the soundcloud player below. Then compare it to the other version of Queensryche’s first single.
UPDATE: It appears that the full-album stream was leaked early, and has since been taken down. Till the stream comes back, check out the single “Cold” again below.
