Here’s proof that even the almighty and mysterious Papa Emeritus II has legal issues to deal with on occasion. Just a few hours after announcing North American tour dates, Ghost revealed that legal reasons have forced them to modify their name.

At least in the U.S., the Swedish doom group will now go under the moniker Ghost B.C. “Make no mistake though. The rituals still demand the same reverence and praise, fortified through a delivery of sweetly satanic melodies, snaking distorted riffs, and vaudevillian keyboards,” the band’s camp claimed in a statement announcing the new name. While it seems a little random and bizarre that someone would wait until the eve of the band’s sophomore album release to lay claim to the moniker “Ghost,” maybe it took that long for lawyers to file suit.

Ghost Ghost B.C. will release their sophomore album, Infestissumam, on April 9 via Loma Vista Recordings.
