For those who might have forgotten, since 2010, Swedish rockers Ghost have been lead by a different Papa Emeritus or Cardinal every album cycle. Below is a quick recap:

  • Papa Emeritus – vocals performance (2010–2012)
  • Papa Emeritus II – vocals performance (2012–2015)
  • Papa Emeritus III – vocals performance (2015–2017)
  • Cardinal Copia – vocals performance (2018–present)

Now in a recent interview with Kerrang! Ghost frontman, Tobias Forge mentioned how Cardinal Copia might be replaced by someone named Papa Emeritus IV.

“I just know that person will have the name Papa Emeritus IV. It will be the fourth Papa Emeritus. But who that is, we don’t know yet.”

Forge did confirm that Ghost will only be playing one show in 2020, allowing himself to fully devote himself to the band’s fifth release.

“I look at many fifth albums as a guide as to the urgency for what that record will need to be, with [Iron Maiden’s] Powerslave being a great example. By the fifth album you’re at a point in your career where you have this momentum built up, and you have the expectancy of people depending on you, so you have to put something special in those many spotlights.”

Ghost recently released their boxset Prequelle Exalted. Watch the unboxing here!
