Looking to make the perfect metal playlist, but don’t want to go to all the work of compiling it? Earache Records is here to help. They’ve launched a free app for Spotify called Earache Metalizer. Essentially, it’s a deck that looks like an EQ, except there are four categories, “metal,” “death,” “thrash” and “grind.” You’ll choose a playlist (or go with Earache’s) and depending on where you move the sliders, that the degree of that genre you’ll get.

It should be noted that it’s not just relegated to Earache bands (Oceano would have “death” turned up to like 2, metal at like 1, and the other two off). Any band on Spotify will work, even newer ones like Metallica. But there are so many different subgenres of metal that it feels like this is just a starting point. Where are the “NWOBHM” and “Gothenburg” sliders? Or the “goth,” “djent” or “hair metal” ones, for that matter? Regardless, it’s still a pretty fun thing to play around with, and if you have Spotify (like you should), it’s a free download. Check out a short video of it in action after the jump.
