One of the big stories that we missed thanks to the holiday season came from Velvet Revolver. No, Slash and Duff McKagan still haven’t found a new singer. However, they did announce that original singer Scott Weiland would be performing with them during a benefit show for the family of musician John O’Brien, who passed away this past August. Considering how it had been about four years since Weiland (who has been keeping busy with Stone Temple Pilots and a solo career) abruptly left the band, this was indeed exciting news for fans. And last night was the night, and the five took the stage at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood…for a four-song set.
Granted, fans looking forward to a full-blown reunion show were likely disappointed. Keep in mind, though, that Weiland and company were performing for a good cause, and not to launch a reunion. Plus, last we heard VR was trying out Jimmy Gnneco, singer of the band Ours. But could this show mean that Velvet Revolver could be bringing back Weiland into the fold? Well, it would make sense considering how long it’s taking them to find a replacement. However, according to what guitarist Dave Kushner told RollingStone.com last week, the plan is to wait and see how the gig goes. For now, we’ll have to make due with the one four-song set. Meanwhile, Slash and Duff’s other former bandmate was found doing something unusual: jury duty. That’s right, Axl Rose served jury duty in Santa Monica, CA this past Tuesday. “It was relatively painless. I was fortunate that everyone in the courthouse and jurors were all really great, plus I got to see daylight from a different prospect,” Rose reportedly told People.com. We agree that it’s nice to see Axl on the other side of the court bench. Now that we know he’ll show up to jury duty, let’s see if he’ll show up to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony.
