Last month, Volbeat announced that they had parted ways with guitarist Thomas Bredahl. At the time, it wasn’t clear whether the band would fulfill their upcoming tour commitments as a trio or with a temporary replacement. Well today, the Danish metal rockabilly band announced that they have tapped none other than Mercyful Fate guitarist Hank Shermann to play guitar with them on Gigantour 2012.
Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen had the following to say via the band’s website:
“It’s a true honor getting to work with Hank, whose guitar work has inspired all three band members long before Volbeat was formed. I’m very thankful that Hank has the time to join us on Gigantour in his busy schedule.”
Shermann added the following about his new touring gig via his own website:
“Im very excited to be part of Volbeat making their forthcoming Gigantour 2012 a kick-ass experience!” Volbeat is, in my opinion, the best and strongest band ever coming out of Denmark, no wonder with their signature killer songs and stage performance!”
Just recently, Shermann made headlines when Mercyful Fate joined Metallica onstage during their 30th anniversary shows. It was the first time in 18 years that he and the original lineup (including King Diamond, Michael Denner and Timi Hansen) shared the stage together. And now Shermann will be kicking off 2012 onstage with another group of Danish metal heads. It’s unclear, though, whether Volbeat will utilize Shermann’s services following Gigantour 2012 or not.
