The first taste of Abigail Williams’ new album, Becoming, has made its way online, and all we can say on first listen is ‘holy shit.’ “Ascension Sickness” sounds like the band has been listening to some Agalloch to flesh out their black metal sound. Clocking in at over 11 minutes, the track is atmospheric, moody and much more epic than anything we’ve heard from them before. They’ve also scaled back on their use of keyboards, but the addition of a violin near the end reminds us of My Dying Bride. You can currently catch Abigail Williams on the road with Mayhem, Woe and Keep of Kalessin. Becoming will be released on January 24 on Candlelight Records.
