Metal “supergroup” Better Lovers dominated a packed Greenpoint, Brooklyn’s Warsaw, on Sunday, November 17th. The latest of The Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato’s projects, this lineup does not disappoint with a roster consisting of former members of the now disbanded “Every Time I Die“ along with “Fit For An Autopsy.“
I unfortunately wasn’t able to make it in time for openers, Spy and Cloakroom, but arrived just in time to capture Full of Hell in action. Hailing from Ocean City, Maryland, this American grindcore band was pure adrenaline from start to finish of their set. There was so much intensity, making it difficult at times for my brand new camera to even keep up with the awesome madness.
Full of Hell
As Better Lovers’ fans anxiously waited for them to take the stage, iconic songs of all genres with “love“ in the title and / or in the lyrics were being blasted. Everything from Pantera to Whitney Houston and Huey Lewis & the News. As Greg took the stage, he wore a melted heart eyes lucha libre style wrestling mask for the first song before stripping it off for the remainder of the set. Fifteen explosive tracks were played while fans sang along to every word despite them only being on the scene for one year and their first full-length, Highly Irresponsible, just coming out a month ago. And it wouldn’t be a Greg Puciato show without him jumping into the pit for a little crowd-surfing action, which happened during their last song, “30 Under 13,” off of their debut EP last year, God Made Me an Animal.
I am a big fan of every band that Greg Puciato has been a part of: The Black Queen, Killer Be Killed, his solo stuff, and, of course, the almighty Dillinger Escape Plan. And Better Lovers is no different. Even though they have only been around one year, their fan base have proven that they are strong and mighty.
Better Lovers‘ Highly Irresponsible North American Tour comes to a close in their hometown of Buffalo, New York, on December 14th at Buffalo RiverWorks before heading to the UK early next year. Gauge Away will take over for Full of Hell starting on December 4th in Dallas, Texas. Grab your tickets while you still can and get in that pit!
Side note… In between sets, I made sure to make time for Warsaw’s famous pierogies and kielbasa. Because when at Warsaw, this Polish girl must indulge in that deliciousness.
