It’s no secret that we’ve been ecstatic about the Big 4’s Yankee Stadium show this September. And even though Metallica has already been joined by members of Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax for a rendition of Diamond Head’s “Am I Evil?” twice now, we’re more than happy to see it again in person. But according to Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, the four bands might be planning something new for the East Coast show.
You can watch Rock AAA’s interview with the goateed guitarist during this past weekend’s Download Festival up top, but when asked if there were plans for more Big 4 jams, Ian said the following:
“I did have a talk with Lars [Ulrich, Metallica drummer] about something for the Yankee Stadium show [in New York City] in September . . . We talked about doing something different at the Yankee Stadium.
It’s great getting up and doing ‘Am I Evil?’, but we’re on stage for, like, two and a half minutes, and we all wanna be up there longer. So we’re not gonna play the full ‘Am I Evil?’, because then it’s just too much, but we talked about some other things to do that will enable us to all be up there and enjoy that time for a bit longer.”
Prior to the first U.S. show in California, Slayer’s Tom Araya (who didn’t take part in either jam) admitted in an interview that he’d definitely join the rest of the Big 4 onstage if they chose to play Metallica’s “The Four Horsemen.” However, Lars Ulrich shot down the possibility of that when confessing that it would be “selfish” to have the other three bands perform a Metallica song with them.
So at this point, we can only imagine what the Big 4 might be talking about doing at Yankee Stadium. For the time being, we’re going to continue counting down the hours until September 14.
