Paws, Pets & Metal is Metal Insider’s newest column on bands with pets, discovering who watches them on the road, and more. Get to know more about these metal furbabies. We caught up with Display of Decay’s Brandon Siefert, who just released their new album, Vitriol. Siefert explained how his cat Lu has grown to be a cat metal king.

Tell us more about your pet(s) and their names?

I have an 8-year-old Norwegian forest cat named Loui, or Lu for short!

Have you ever taken your pet on tour?

I have not! When we went on tour in 2019, my first with the band, he stayed home. Unfortunately, he is quite skittish, and the hustle and bustle of a tour and the travel involved would stress him right out.

Who looks after your pet while on the road?

I have a friend who lives close by who doesn’t mind coming to look after him for the time we are away.

What’s your pet’s favorite song or album?

I would have to say that my kitty’s favorite album would be our release titled “Vitriol”. The amount of times I have listened to it on full volume since getting it back, I think would leave him no choice but to love it!

How did you introduce your pet to metal?

When he first came into my life, he was very timid and hid a lot. Ironically enough, he would hide behind my amplifier. I began to practice, and over time he emerged from behind the amp and was rubbing against it and purring. From that moment on, I knew that Lu was a metal king!

What animal charity means most to you?

The SPCA is the animal charity that means the most to me. I got Lu from an SPCA shelter as an adopted cat when he was quite young. The joy he has brought to my life, and seeing how far he has come after being dropped at a shelter because he was small and afraid. He was there for a long time before I saw him, but when I did it was love at first sight! I would heavily recommend anyone looking to get into pet ownership, to adopt!
