A California judge has made a decision regarding Marilyn Manson’s lawsuit against his ex-fiancée, Evan Rachel Wood, who has accused him of abuse during their past relationship. The lawsuit accused Wood of fabricating abuse stories and encouraging other women to do the same. However, the judge threw out key sections of the lawsuit on May 9, including the part accusing Wood of using a faked FBI letter to convince other women to come forward with abuse allegations against Manson. The judge also dismissed the part of the lawsuit accusing Wood and another defendant, Illma Gore, of using a “checklist” to prompt false abuse claims against Manson, citing a lack of evidence. Manson’s lawsuit claimed that Wood and Gore defamed him, negatively impacting his career. Manson has denied all allegations against him, while Wood’s attorney Michael Kump stated that the ruling protects Evan’s exercise of her First Amendment rights. Manson’s attorney Howard King has expressed disappointment with the ruling but also expressed it wasn’t unexpected, stating:
“The Court telegraphed this outcome when it refused to consider the bombshell sworn declaration of former plaintiff Ashley Smithline, which detailed how women were systematically pressured by Evan Rachel Wood and Illma Gore to make false claims about Brian Warner.”
There have been settlements and dismissals in cases against Manson. However, Ashely Smithline eventually dropped her case and made an apparent unfiltered and uncensored appearance on a popular YouTube channel back in late February, where she made shocking revelations about the subject. Despite the gravity of her statements, news outlets have not picked up on her alleged bombshell reveal. This has added to the confusion surrounding this complicated, controversial, and lengthy battle, leaving the outcome of the case relatively unclear.
