Grey Daze kept it in the family for their latest music video. Jaime Bennington, son of late Linkin Park/Grey Daze frontman Chester Bennington, has directed the music video for the band’s new single “Soul Song.”
“This music video is about my spiritual connection to the other side and my literal experiences with the elusive and, at times, incomprehensible presence of my father after death,” Jaime said of the video in a statement. “’Soul Song’ is about the many ways in which we come to enlightenment, into knowledge, and the many ways we fall away from it. This is my personal experience with that.”
Not only did Jaime direct the video, he is also featured on the track.
Said Grey Daze co-founder and drummer Sean Dowdell in a statement about working with Jaime:
“Having Jaime involved in the recording of ‘Soul Song’ meant so much to all of us. It was one of those full circle moments where we remembered meeting Chester at an even younger age than Jaime, and to now be recording with his son… it was a highlight of recording ‘Amends’. Jaime is a burgeoning filmmaker so when he offered to do this video, well, we couldn’t think of a better way to present this song.”
“Soul Song” is the fourth single from Grey Daze’s upcoming album, Amends, out June 26 on Loma Vista Records. Earlier this year, the band released videos for “What’s In The Eye,” “Sickness” and “Sometimes.”
Before his passing in 2017, Chester Bennington and Grey Daze were getting ready to reunite. Instead, surviving members Dowdell, bassist Mace Beyers and guitarist Cristin Davis, along with widow Talinda Bennington and Chester’s parents, decided to release Amends, an album that blends remastered mixes of Chester’s vocals from the band’s 1990s output with updated musical arrangements. The album features several guests, including Jaime, Korn’s Brian “Head” Welch and James “Munky” Shaffer, Helmet’s Page Hamilton, LP, Breaking Benjamin’s Jasen Rauch, P.O.D.’s Marcos Curiel, Orgy’s Ryan Shuck and guitarist Chris Traynor.
Amends is available for pre-order now. Aside from digital sales and streaming outlets, the album will be released a variety of physical sets, including a CD that comes in a 16-page bound book; a ruby red webstore-exclusive vinyl; and a numbered deluxe edition CD/LP set that features a first-of-its-kind disc tray designed for vinyl, a 60-page book with never-before-seen photos, a 180-gram red and white splattered vinyl, and the “Grey Daze Archive” (a collectible set of band memorabilia).
