Witherfall have been busy working on their follow-up to 2018’s A Prelude To Sorrow, which landed on our top 225 albums of the decade. From 2017’s Nocturnes and Requiems followed by their latest effort along with making a killer Helloween cover, we wanted to know more about their musical world. Masterminds Joseph Michael and Jake Dreyer have shared their favorite albums of the decade.
We cordially invite you into the world of Witherfall. Though it is a strange place Jake Dreyer and Joseph Michael guide you through it’s odd contours. For horses of a different color. Normies, Be Warned.
Jason Becker, Triumphant Hearts (2018)
Great compositions and excellent guest solos though nothing beats Perpetual Burn for me.
Itzhak Perlman, The Complete Warner Recordings (2015)
First of all, anything Itzhak touches is gold but he especially takes great joy in performing Mozart. Check out Rondo in C K.373
Marty Friedman, Inferno (2014)
Marty’s best record since Scenes just always masterful vibrato and very memorable melodies.
Laugh all you want but the top notch songwriting and flawless production by Max Martin make this a must listen for any music fan or professional. Check out “Style.”
Paul Gilbert, Fuzz Universe (2010)
Terrifying guitar playing on this one.
Queensryche, Condition Human (2015)
This was the album that convinced me Todd LaTorre could pull this off. Zeuss production on the record is also quite exquisite. Check out the song “Bulletproof.” Probably my favorite song by the Ryche not on the classic albums.
Al Di Meola, Pursuit Of Radical Rhapsody (2011)
Not a metal release but a truly great guitar album for any instrumental fans.
Sanctuary, The Year The Sun Died (2014)
This was the album that convinced us to go with Chris Zeuss Harris to Mix Witherfall’s Nocturnes and Requiems. It will also stand as Warrel Danes’ last great work.
The Devils Blood, The Thousandfold Epicentre (2011)
Although I prefer their debut, which came out before the decade. In my opinion, this band does the modern classic occult rock thing better than anyone else in the game. Great songwriting.
Colm Wilkinson, Broadway and Beyond (2010)
Colm is a music legend. The original Jean Valjean and Phantom of The Opera, as well as Judas in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar. In this recording he is well into his 60’s but his vocal control and stupendous tone is undeniable. Check out the range in “Old Man River”
