System Of A Down known more for their ability to play live than launch new music, was recently called out in a petition by fans. Created by George Roca, a change.org petition calls for frontman Serj Tankian and the rest of SOAD to release previously unreleased songs recorded for their 2005 albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize, as well as any others.
When asked about the petition recently, Serj responded:
“For the unreleased Soad songs ? Yes. I’m all for it. Convince everyone else”
This hints that while Hypnotize was their last release 14 years ago in 2005, the creative impasse often spoken about surrounding SOAD has hit its patience limit with fans worldwide. With more than 2,300 signatures since its creation over a month ago,
In what seemed like a peak behind the curtain, the band’s inner dispute spilled out online in early 2018 when guitarist Daron Malakian stated the band didn’t abandon the idea of making new material, but “certain members hadn’t been able to make it work for themselves,” implying that there was a holdout.
Serj Tankian took offense and issued a public statement shortly after the interview through his facebook laying out all the turmoil that fans would never have been privy to.
Despite the bands creative differences and inability to create new music for the masses, the band continues to sporadically book dates and tour with the following shows confirmed:
