Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
This week’s top metal release comes from the legendary Motörhead, whose new album The Wörld Is Yours debuts at #86. In comparison to their previous releases, 7,000 might appear to be a low number in sales for the almighty Lemmy and gang. However, it’s still pretty impressive of a number considering that the standard version of the album has been available everywhere else but in North America about a month ago. Making it even more impressive is that the album was originally available as a bundle package with Classic Rock magazine back in December of 2010. While the magazine is published through Future PLC in the U.K., American fans could easily pick up an issue in their local Barnes & Noble. So the fact that it’s pretty much been available for two months and still ranks in at #86 is still impressive as hell. Then again, Lemmy is God…
Notable Debuts:
Motörhead, The Wörld Is Yours (Mötorhead Music) #86, 7,000 sold
Maybe their performance on Conan won over a few new fans.
Crowbar, Sever the Wicked Hand (eOne Music) #172, 3,530 sold
Their top 200 debut is pretty good news for these sludge metal kings, especially considering that the Metalliance Tour with Helmet and Saint Vitus doesn’t even start until March.
Belphegor, Blood Magick Necromance (Nuclear Blast) 990 sold
They might have been forced to miss a few shows on their tour with Deicide recently, but the death metal Austrians have a decent first week on the charts. Plus, they have a lot more touring opportunities coming up, like a tour with Sepultura.
Notable Sales:
Kid Rock, Born Free (Atlantic) #19, 20,000 sold
A nice 19% increase proves that the American Badass ain’t leaving the charts any time soon.
Red, Until We Have Faces (Essential) #28, 15,900 sold
On the other hand, falling 26 spots down the charts with a 63% decrease makes one believe that these Christian hard rockers won’t be staying too much longer.
Linkin Park, A Thousand Suns (Warner Bros.) #45, 13,100 sold
Despite falling five spots down the charts, the former rap kings see a decent 14% increase in their 22 week on the charts. Looks like their appearance on Saturday Night Live two weekends ago is really paying off.
Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare (Warner Bros.) #118, 5,570 sold
Also experiencing a 14% increase despite falling 15 spots down the charts.
Disturbed, Asylum (Reprise) #129, 5,240 sold
25 spots down the chart isn’t a good sign for the band, even with a 7% increase.
Five Finger Death Punch, War is the Answer (Prospect Park) #130, 5,200 sold
Can you believe that after 73 weeks, over a year since its debut, this album is still in the top 200?!
A Day To Remember, What Separates Me from You (Victory) #165, 3,680 sold
Did we already make the joke “looks like not many people remembered to pick this album up”? We did? Sorry, we couldn’t remember…
Stone Sour, Audio Secrecy (Roadrunner) #189, 3,110
Even the nice 15% increase barely keeps these guys in the top 200.
Motley Crue, Greatest Hits (Motley Records) #194, 3,060 sold
The sales spike for this unnecessary hits package is good news for Vince Neil, who started his 2 week sentence yesterday.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network Movie Soundtrack (The Null Corporation) #199, 2,980 sold
The Oscar buzzed soundtrack just makes it into the top 200 despite the 22% decrease.
We Came As Romans, To Plant A Seed (Equal Vision) 1,400 sold
Literally the same amount sold this week as last week. How do these guys continue to constantly sell so well?!
Asking Alexandria, Stand up and Scream (Sumerian) 1,360 sold
No longer Asking Alexandria’s only release on the charts.
The Damned Things, Ironiclast (Island) 1000 sold
If a tour with Buckcherry didn’t boost sales, will a tour with Volbeat do much better?
Volbeat, Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (Universal) 700 sold
I mean no offense, but it isn’t like Volbeat is selling any better than The Damned Things.
Asking Alexandria, Life Gone Wild EP (Sumerian) 680 sold
It only took a week for this EP to return.
Electric Wizard, Black Masses (Metal Blade) 530 sold
A large 22% decrease in their fourth week isn’t as bad as…
Lazarus A.D., Black Rivers Flow (Metal Blade) 510 sold
The major 55% decrease Lazarus A.D. experience in their second week on the charts.
Woe, Is Me, Number[s] (Velocity/Rise) 480 sold
Like usual tour mates We Came As Romans, Woe, Is Me sell around the same amount as last week. Unlike We Came As Romans, they don’t sell as constantly well.
Pierce the Veil, Selfish Machines (Equal Vision) 400 sold
Same deal as Woe, Is Me, though probably even less people care.
