Guns N’ Roses’ successful Not In This Lifetime Tour was one for the books. To see Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan reunited on stage was something we thought was an unrealistic dream. Although it was realized, the reunion didn’t include former rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin. Countless fans didn’t understand why he wasn’t involved on the run.
During the summer of 2016, just in time for the kick off of their first leg of the tour, a fan held out a “Where’s Izzy” sign at the Nashville gig. This sign caused more harm than good, as it was reportedly destroyed by security at the band’s request. Guns N’ Roses have since denied this but, fans have continued to wonder about Stradlin’s whereabouts.
A new report has surfaced with Guns N’ Roses manager Alan Niven stating that Stradlin came very close to being reunited with the group. He allegedly appeared at the band’s soundcheck during one of their midwestern dates but left shortly after and never returned.
According to a recent Appetite for Distortion podcast. Niven revealed the following:
“[Izzy] did get as far as flying out and doing a soundcheck, and he left after a soundcheck, he didn’t want to have anything to do with it.
It was last year, it was somewhere out in the midwest, when they were doing stadiums. Obviously had it gone well and everybody had been happy, and there had been a little bit of brotherhood, I’m sure he would have stayed with it. But something must have really upset him, because he left after the soundcheck, and never turned up for another one or an appearance. I would think right now he is probably a little pissed off.”
