New & Noteworthy is a weekly column in which we highlight some of the newest rock and metal releases coming out each week. This week we’ve got new music from Visigoth and Therion, as well as the debut album from Legend of the Seagullmen. Studio Releases
Legend Of The Seagullmen, Legend Of The Seagullmen (Dine Alone Records)
Legend of the Seagullmen is the widely hyped up release from the supergroup of the same name. Featuring the likes of Danny Carey (Tool), Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Peter Griffin (Zappa Meets Zappa), Chris Diovanni, David ‘The Doctor’ Dreyer and film director Jimmy Hayward, the names alone set the bar of expectation high. My first reaction was generally positive, but I’m going to be going back to it over the next week or two. They don’t have any upcoming tour dates, but have played a few shows in the past together and are expected to again in the future.
Visigoth, Conquerer’s Oath (Metal Blade)
American heavy metal band Visigoth is back to follow up their 2015 debut The Revenant King, which I really enjoyed what I heard from it. The bad has released one music video so far, for the first single “Warrior Queen.” Both Metal Wani and Heavy Blog is Heavy have given the album some high praise, so I’m hopeful it will live up to their debut if not surpass it. Conquerer’s Oath is also available on Bandcamp, and will be released on vinyl next month. Unfortunately we do not have any announced North American dates yet, but the band will be touring Europe into March.
Therion, Beloved Antichrist (Nuclear Blast)
Beloved Antichrist is about as epic in ambition as they come in the world of high sconcept symphonic rock operas. With 29 unique characters, each with their own vocalist, the album comes in at 49 tracks spread over three full length discs. So far the band has released lyric videos for two tracks, “Night Reborn” and “Temple of New Jerusalem,” and an interesting but ultimately pretty cringeworthy music video for “Theme of Antichrist.” Last week the band embarked on a tour as epic as the release itself, and will be playing 66 dates over the next three months. Beloved Antichrist will be available as a physical release next month.
Good Tiger, We Will All Be Gone (Blacklight Media/Metal Blade)
We Will All Be Gone is the second album from the UK progressive metal group Good Tiger. Coming off their pretty well received debut A Head Full of Moonlight, the group seems looking to set the bar even higher for themselves. So far they have only released a video for the track “The Devil Thinks I’m Sinking.” We Will All Be Gone is also available on Bandcamp.
