Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week.
Even though there were a crap load of debuts, only a hand full actually appeared on the charts this week. This week’s highest metal debut comes from All That Remains, whose fifth studio album cracked the top 10. It’s the Masscore band’s highest ranking and best-selling album to date, with 2008’s Overcome ranking in at #16 and selling a little less than 29,000. The sales may not be anything to go gaga over, but for any metal band to come near the top 10 nowadays is an accomplishment.

Notable Debuts:
All That Remains, For We Are Many (Prosthetic/Razor & Tie) #10, 29,200 sold
This album also marks the first time All That Remains has been able to keep a consistent lineup intact for more than just one album.

Dimmu Borgir, Abrahadabra (Nuclear Blast) #42, 9,400 sold
Even with the absence of bassist/clean vocalist ICS Vortex and keyboardist Mustis, and with the mini drama of lineup replacements, Dimmu Borgir are able to crack the top 50 once again. Their ninth album is also the band’s highest ranking album (2007’s In Sorte Diaboli ranked in at # 43).

Madball, Empire (Good Fight) 1,500 sold
Despite the recent drama surrounding drummer Jay Weinberg’s departure (or maybe because of it?), the New York hardcore legends have a solid first week.

Vanna, Honest Hearts EP (Artery) 1,300 sold
A solid for week for the post-hardcore band’s first release through Artery Recordings.

Intronaut, Valley of Smoke (Century Media) 1,260 sold
Intronaut’s previous tours with Helmet and Cynic may account to their solid first week.

Arson Anthem, Insecurity Notoriety (Housecore) 600 sold
The sales of the crust punk supergroup’s debut full length may not be as impressive as Phil Anselmo, Hank Williams and Mike Williams’ other projects, but still not awful.

Hail of Bullets, On Divine Winds (Metal Blade) 400 sold
Can’t say that the Dutch death metal supergroup’s sophomore album has a great first week.

Notable Sales:
Linkin Park, A Thousand Suns (Warner Bros.) #11, 28,100
The band will be holding the first ever International LPU Summit in London, England on November 10-11. How many of you will be attending this? Anyone?

Disturbed, Asylum (Reprise) #35, 11,500 sold
Rumors are starting to spread that Disturbed will be touring with Korn next year. Sadly, we doubt they would call it the Disturbingly Korny Tour.

Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare (Warner Bros.) #57, 7,200 sold
It’s been revealed that A7X’s single “Nightmare” is the most played song at Media Base Active Rock for 2010.

Bring Me the Horizon, There is a Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There is a Heaven, Let’s Keep It a Secret (Epitaph) #67, 6,400 sold
A big 68% decrease for the British metalcore band in their second week on the charts.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network Movie Soundtrack (The Null Corporation) #69, 6,240 sold
After an enormous 82% decrease in its second week, the soundtrack to The Social Network sees a nice 39% increase and a large jump up the charts.

Five Finger Death Punch, War is the Answer (Prospect Park) #82, 5,400 sold
This album has continued to do so well that we can’t recall if it ever slipped off the top 100. You’d think we’d know that eh?

Soundgarden, Telephantasm (A&M/UMe) #95, 4,900 sold
Falling down the charts by 34 spots doesn’t lead us to believe that this hits package will last much longer on the charts.

Stone Sour, Audio Secrecy (Roadrunner) #98, 4,800 sold
No U.S. tour plans yet, but from the looks of how fast this album is dropping, they might want to start planning soon.

Godsmack, Oracle (Universal) #101, 4,700 sold
A slight increase shows that Godsmack most likely won’t be exiting the charts any time soon.

AC/DC, AC/DC: Iron Man 2 (Columbia) #110, 4,500 sold
The Aussie rock legends are apparently among the Billboard Touring Award finalists this year.

Chiodos, Illuminaudio (Equal Vision) #124, 3,900 sold
A 65% decrease and falling 88 spots down the charts in their second week isn’t a good sign for the post-hardcore band.

Joe Satriani, Black Swans & Wormhole Wizards (Epic) #151, 3,200 sold
A 67% decrease for the virtuoso guitarist. Guess he’s happy that Chickenfoot is moving forward, even though drummer Chad Smith won’t be touring with them.

Ozzy Osbourne, Scream (Epic) #155, 3,100 sold
Sales for the Prince Of Darkness are steadily decreasing, but his upcoming touring plans might help a bit.

Mushroomhead, Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children (Megaforce) #163, 3,000 sold
63 spots down the charts in their third week is KNOThing to be worried about.

Iron Maiden, The Final Frontier (UMe) #191, 2,400 sold
This may be the final week for Maiden on the charts. Are we ashamed for making such an awful pun for these legends? Kind of, but not really.

Motley Crue, Greatest Hits (Motley Records) #194, 2,400 sold
Wait, the Crue are six spots away from falling off the top 200. Could this finally be this pointless greatest hits package’s last week on the charts?!

Sully Erna, Avalon (Republic) #196, 2,360 sold
After five weeks, Sully’s solo project’s stay on the charts may finally have come to an end.

Halford, Halford IV: Made of Metal (Metal God) 1,200 sold
The Metal God lives to tell another week, even after a 37% decrease.

James LaBrie, Static Impulse (InsideOut) 680 sold
A slight decrease for the Dream Theater singer in his third week.

Enslaved, Axioma Ethica Odini (Nuclear Blast) 680 sold
After a large decrease in their second week, the progressive black metal Norwegians experience a slight increase that could see them hanging around a bit longer.

Death Angel, Relentless Retribution (Nuclear Blast) 570 sold
In five weeks, the San Fran thrash legends have sold just under 5,700 copies of their latest album.

Blind Guardian, At the Edge of Time (Nuclear Blast) 500 sold
Not too far off from where the German power metallers were last week.

Pierce The Veil, Selfish Machines (Equal Vision) 400 sold
Just like Blind Guardian, pretty much the same place as last week. Also just like we expected last week, no one admitted to seeing them at the Attack Attack! and Emmure tour.

Iwrestledabearonce, It’s All Happening (Century Media) 390 sold
A 26% decrease sees this album slowly slipping off again. Though don’t be surprised to see them return randomly like they have for the past few months.

Terror, Keepers of the Faith (Century Media) 380 sold
The only thing these Hardcore kings might be in terror of is not returning to the charts next week. And the only good thing about them possibly not returning next week: you won’t have to here another awful terror pun from us.

Powerglove, Saturday Morning Apocalypse (E1) 380 sold
Same as last week for everyone’s favorite Nintendo metal band.

Eyes Set To Kill, Broken Frames (Break Silence) 380 sold
After a noticeable absence from the charts for a few weeks, everyone’s favorite screamo band from this past year’s Warped Tour makes a slight return. Maybe fans mistook the album for lead singer Alexia Rodriguez’s new solo album? Eh?

Chelsea Grin, Desolation Of Eden (Razor & Tie/Artery) 370 sold
A 5% decrease won’t be changing their grin I’m sure. Can you guess how many times we’ve used that joke?
