I don’t know if I’m supposed to include this as a legitimate addition to the list, or as parody, so I’m going to do both, and throw it up on top because I can (and competition isn’t the best this week). Punk Goes Pop Vol. 7 is the seventh edition of the Punk Goes Pop series, which was started by Fearless Records with their inaugural Punk Goes release back in 2000, Punk Goes Metal. The Punk Goes Pop series features your favorite metal/metalcore/alt-metal bands, and a bunch of other bands you don’t know but might want to check out, drop-tuning hit pop songs and covering them with screams and breakdowns. Some will inevitably be more cringeworthy than others, but there are always at least a few legitimately good renditions. You can check out videos of The Amity Affliction covering “Can’t Feel My Face,” and Dance Gavin Dance covering Bruno Mars’ “That’s What I Like.” The series may be pretty cheesy, but it’s always interesting to hear bands from a completely different world put their touch on what’s currently trending.
Monuments is a disc CD/DVD compilation release from the German heavy metal band Edguy. The album features a few new songs, a greatest hits from the band’s 25 year career, and a live DVD filmed during their 2004 “Hellfire Club” tour. As of right now, just the digital download is available in the U.S. Physicals such as CDs and a vinyl box set will be available later this month. Lyric videos for two of the five new songs “Ravenblack” and “Wrestle the Devil,” as well as live video of the song “King of Fools.” Edguy will be touring in support of the release and their anniversary, but it is unlikely that there will be many, if any, U.S. tour dates.
Will be available on vinyl next month.
The band’s debut album is getting a re-release. There will be a new studio album coming at some point later this year.
Also available on vinyl.
