Today, Canadian singer/songwriter Feist released her fifth album, Pleasure. And while many might best know the musician from her iPod commercial back in the day, she’s a very known commodity in the indie world. She’s also dabbled with Mastodon in the past, and them with her, as the two collaborated on a split 7″ for Record Store Day where each covered a song of the other. It looks like the love has carried over into the new album as well. 

If you’re looking for a full-on duet, or really anything more than Feist being Feist, you may be disappointed. It’s a perfectly lovely song, sparse, and anchored mainly by the singer with minimal jazz-like drumming. In fact, it’s not until the very end of the song that you hear Mastodon, and even then, it’s about fifteen seconds of the band’s “High Road” from 2014’s Once More ‘Round the Sun as the track fades out. It’s an interesting blink and you’ll miss it experiment that might leave some Feist fans wondering what just happened.
