One of the biggest left-field rock hits in recent years was the Disturbed cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence.” Uncharacteristically acoustic, it was faithful to the original in a way that the band’s other covers (Genesis’ “Land of Confusion,” Tears For Fears’ “Shout”) weren’t. The band’s performance of the song on Conan brought it to a much larger audience, and the song even got top 40 airplay and props from Paul Simon himself. It seems like the reaction the band got from the song is leading them to go in a similar direction for a new EP.

In an interview with Rock Antennae, singer David Draiman says their next project will be an acoustic EP:

“We have an acoustic EP that we’re working on. That’s something we’ve wanted to do for years that we just never had the time or the opportunity to. So that we’ll be working on between our LP releases. And then probably 2018 we will head back into the studio to record the next record and hopefully have a release sometime in late 2018 and hit the road 2019 again.”

We’re assuming an acoustic version of the Simon & Garfunkel song will be included on the EP. Currently, the band are on the road with Avenged Sevenfold on a UK tour.
