On this, the day that Cliff Burton would have turned 55 and the day before Metallica team up with Lady Gaga at the Grammys, we’re reminded of the album that started it all for them. Kill ‘Em All was an instant classic upon it’s release in 1983, a calling card that set them up as a band to watch, and a breath of fresh air just as overproduced hair metal started to begin it’s reign. However, to one YouTube user, Ben Eller, it was an opportunity for an experiment: what would the iconic album sound like if it was played entirely in major keys?

Well, it would sound like pop-punk. Yep, take away minor keys and “Seek and Destroy,” “Motorbreath,” “The Four Horsemen” and the rest of the album sound like they could be Sum 41 outtakes. This is well done and funny, but you’ll probably only want to watch it once so it doesn’t ruin your memory of Kill ’em All
