2017 is shaping up to be a huge year for Darkest Hour. The band has announced that their ninth album and first since 2014’s self-titled record, Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora, will be coming into the world on March 10th. The record was the fruit of an extremely successful IndieGoGo funding campaign that far exceeded their target goal.
Even more exciting is where Godless Prophets was recorded: the band enlisted visionary producer Kurt Ballou (High On Fire, Nails, Converge, Mutoid Man) for this release – Ballou has a very distinct sound to his productions, and the rawness of his recordings will be an interesting contrast to the more polished, mainstream self-titled. “Working at Godcity was the perfect vibe for this record and Kurt was everything we could have asked for in a producer,” says guitarist Mike Schleibaum. “The passion and experience he brought to the whole album really shows.” Another great wrinkle: the record will be released by revered underground label Southern Lord, (Sunn O))), Earth, Yob) who originally released the vinyl version of their debut album, The Mark Of The Judas. That’s another complete 180 from the previous record, which was released by Sumerian Records. Needless to say, this album is going to rule.
