Remember the Vengaboys? The name might not immediately come to mind, but you probably remember the cheesy dance song “We Like To Party.” Or if you’ve seen an older ad for Six Flags with that dancing old guy, you’ve heard it. Why are we bringing up a ’90s dance hit? Because Devin Townsend is a fan of it too, and liked it enough to record a cover version of it. The song was recorded with Casualties of Cool bandmade Che Aimee Dorval and former The Gathering frontwoman and frequent collaborator Anneke Van Giersbergen. He said the original version made him cry when he heard it. Speaking to TeamRock, Townsend said that he’s got a soft spot for ’90s pop songs, and hopefully his version of the track will see the light of day if Vengaboys’ label grants them the rights.
“I love “Barbie Girl” by Aqua. Vengaboys, “We Like To Party,” I remember when I heard that song it made me cry, I liked it so much. I recently did a version of it with both Che and Anneke but I can’t release it yet because we can’t get the rights for it. At the end it’s really destructive, as you would imagine.”
Seriously, Vengaboys’ label, what’s stopping you from making this happen? It’s not like the band’s active any more, so you might as well make some money off the tune. Here’s the original, and sorry for getting it stuck in your head.
