Last week, we wrote about Poison Headache, and while we enjoyed the band’s brand of metallic hardcore from their first song, “Sin Eater,” the band’s sound was nearly overshadowed by the fact that they had a member that they weren’t about to reveal. Given that they were on Metal Blade, and from San Diego, it didn’t take too long for some on the interwebs to think that there might be a member of Wovenwar and/or As I Lay Dying in the band. Turns out, that’s the case, as guitarist Phil Sgrosso is in the band. Metal Sucks have premiered another song from the band, “Conspirator,” and gotten Sgrosso to talk about the track:
“‘Conspirator’ reflects the punk influence in our music. It’s fast and simple in nature but we still aim to keep it heavy. In our book, there’s no better way to start a song off than with a circle pit. This song is written for those who manipulate and take advantage of the weak minded to serve their own destructive agenda. You will get yours.”
It makes sense why Poison Headache might have wanted to play coy about Sgrosso being in the band. Many Noisey readers probably wouldn’t have listened to a track from the former guitarist of As I Lay Dying, and now they might be a new favorite band of some of them. There’s some sort of message about judging a book by it’s cover, or something, because this is solid stuff. The band’s self-titled album will be out on Metal Blade on June 3rd, but if you can’t wait that long, they’ll be playing a record release show at Brick by Brick on Saturday, May 21. You can order the album here.
