It’s been a rough run for rock musicians lately, with us having list the likes of Lemmy, Scott Weiland, David Bowie and Dio’s Jimmy Bain just in the last four months or so. It doesn’t seem like it’s getting any better either, as both KISS frontman Paul Stanley and original guitarist Ace Frehley had to sit out and postpone shows following separate ailments, respectively. On Friday, KISS was set to headline an intimate set at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles this past Friday (15) for the Race to Erase MS fundraising show. While they played regardless, they had to so as a trio, as Stanley tore a bicep. He was given a screw and stitches to keep it in place, and was unable to play the set as a result. He’s optimistic that he’ll be fully recovered in time for the band’s Summer tour, as he stated in a tweet.

The remaining members of KISS, Gene Simmons, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, played a four-song set consisting of Simmons-fronted songs “Deuce,” “Calling Dr. Love,” “Cold Gin” and “Rock and Roll All Night.” This actually marks just the second time the band has played as a three piece, with Stanley also sitting out a set in 2007.
Meanwhile, last night’s (16) Ace Frehley show in Poughkeepsie was postponed after the onetime KISS guitarist was admitted to the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following his show at the F.M.Kirby Center there. Testing showed he was suffering from dehydration and exhaustion, leading him to postpone the sold-out show at The Chance. Ticketholders were able to get a refund or use the tickets in September, which is when the show is expected to be rescheduled.
Here’s hoping both Stanley and Frehley, both 64, make full recoveries. Ace’s latest album, Origins, Vol. 1, was released this past Friday on eOne Entertainment.
